Mitch Chappell Mitch Chappell
Director of Civil Construction Services

Mitch Chappell has nearly 30 years of civil construction experience. He was promoted recently to Director of Civil Construction Services from Civil Group Manager. In his new role, Chappell oversees all operations for the civil department for AUI Contractors, which is based in Fort Worth, Texas. Responsible for the entire department, he manages all aspects of civil construction projects including financial reporting, estimation, equipment and people.

Chappell joined AUI as a Project Manager for a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) project in downtown Dallas. He works closely with the estimating team in the bid review and buyout, contract review and budgeting process. He also works in collaboration with AUI's management team on equipment procurement and capital improvements, as well as other departments on financial reporting requirements, project staffing levels, and safety training.

Since joining AUI in 2001, Chappell has steered his construction teams toward successful completion of projects for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and numerous municipal and private clients. Most recently, he led a project team that completed in March 2006 an 800-foot hike and bike pedestrian bridge over White Rock Lake in Dallas. The joint project for Dallas County and the City of Dallas was the first of its kind for AUI. It required the use of barges, tugboats, ferry cranes and drilling rigs to move concrete, bulk heads and other heavy materials by water to the bridge site. In 2007 the project received an Award of Merit from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) annual National Excellence in Construction Awards.

Prior to AUI, Chappell was a Construction Estimator and Project Manager for two small civil construction firms in the Dallas area. From 1987 to 1998, Chappell held several positions of increasing responsibility at Austin Bridge & Road in Dallas. Prior to that, Chappell worked in Amarillo, Texas, for Amarillo Road Co. and Ivan Dement, Inc. in civil construction positions.

Chappell is a member of Quoin, the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). Before starting his construction career, he took courses at Amarillo College and West Texas State University.
